about

It is confirmed: 27 years after the largest industrial disaster took place 8 ex-employees of US chemical giant Union Carbide get away with ridiculously light sentences. The escape of poisonous gas that settled over the city in 1984 caused 25.000 deadly victims among Bhopal's population, and many thousands more of Bhopal's inhabitants still today suffer from the irreversible damaging consequences, provoked by the deadly cloud of gas. Back in those years I was really shocked to see the widespread, disastrous impact of the negligence of some of the plant's decisionmakers, and of ill-applied, calculated risk management, but what made me absolutely furious were the hushing, ironical and relativating words directed to the gathered world press, of Warren M. Anderson, CEO in those years of pesticide-producer Union Carbide.

Inspired by the event I worked out an instrumental piece - Bhopal - that intents to really capture the impact of the disaster and my thereof forthsprouting anger, and decided to incorporate Anderson's belittling words, juxtaposing with the sheer enormity of the disaster as reflected in the various integrated soundclips from different leading news channels. Eventually the track was chosen to feature on my first solo album "Six Reels Of Joy" (1991, Materiali Sonori)
